It’s been a while since I’ve been at the famous Delano Hotel for a night out; as I used to be a regular at its popular Tuesday night party. So I was looking forward to going back to check it out, especially to see what crowd this night would attract.  During “season” there is a different special event almost every week in this city and the tourist change with every one of them.  New Year’s Eve brings the, “I’m in Miami and can go crazy doing anything I want because this is Miami tourist”.  For Art Basel you get the artsy folk talking art, selling art and buying art while fabulous and artsy parties compliment each night.  The Miami International Boat Show, which was this past weekend’s event, brings a lot of really rich folk from all over the world, who come to drink, party and buy yachts.  Tonight, at The Delano, it was a true illustration of that.

As my girlfriend Jamie and I arrive we are greeted at the door by Silvana, a super sweet Italina, who knows the door business well.  She’s tough on the tourist, yet recognizes us loyal locals and whisks us right in.  Walking through the grandeur of The Delano is always engaging. Passing by the lobby’s white flowing curtains we enter a happening spot, where people gather and mingle while some dine at hotel’s restaurant Bianca.  We step outside towards the crowded pool area were our local DJ friend Andy Tavin is spinning sexy, sultry beats under the most magnificent clear skies, when an older gentlemen holding a glass of champagne out to me, waves me over.

The nice gentleman offering me a glass of champagne is Barry from Perth, in for the boat show and looking to buy a yacht, and also looking to have some fun. I of course fill him in on all the fun things Livethetour.com offers.  He’s intrigued by the VIP host option we have, as he had just been turned down at the door of Club Set.  I fill him in on some of the door rules of Miami, one of which is, no matter how much money you have, if you don’t have beautiful women with you or a host to greet you, you ain’t getting in.

Happy to chat, while finishing off the bottle of Veuve Clicquot, our conversation is engaging as we talk about all the wonderful things Miami has to offer, especially if you have a yacht.  As I toast my new Aussi friend salud I sit back on the wonderful cabana bed, take in my surroundings and smile. It’s pretty cool that I get to be here, on this warm February night, talking yachts with someone who has traveled from so far to get here. There I’m reminded of why The Delano is always a great spot to come, have a drink and catch a glimpse of the beautiful social scene that makes this Miami.
